Macquarie Hills Community Preschool is committed to Going Green! We encourage all our children to get involved in becoming self-sufficient and aware of the impact that they have on the environment.
To prove our centre is committed to reducing our carbon footprint we have:
- Installed a solar hot water system
- Set up a rainwater reticulation system
- Have the children maintain our worm farm with food scraps collected at morning tea and lunch time
- Promote self-sufficiency by planning and maintaining vegetable gardens
- Encourage children to recycle by having paper/cardboard and soft plastic recycling bins around the centre
- Reduced the amount of paper used in our office by using e-mail to correspond with parents and carers
- Adopted new bin system in line with changes to Lake Macquarie City Council waste collection.
